There will come a day, not too far into the future, when the only people who still drive diesel cars will be seen as outliers and eccentrics. Until that day comes there are still cars like yesterday’s 2014 VW Golf TDI which, when it comes to fuel-efficient and reasonably comfortable commuting, would probably be hard to beat. Unfortunately for the dealer who offered it, an ambitious asking price of $ 15,999 was eminently beatable, down in our all-important vote in a 78 percent loss.

I’d like you to think for a minute about the postural opposite of this Golf – Peary to his Amundsen so to speak. I imagine for every aspect of the space of this VW efficiency, economy, modernity and repair guarantee, each of these is missing a car elements. Username imagine that such a car would have its own unique advantages; aspects such as style, power and sense of use that is more visceral than computer generated. In fact, I imagine you were thinking of something like 1995 Dodge Viper RT / 10.

The first generation Viper is entering a phase of its life where fewer and fewer people are willing to live with its inherent vices and demands. Much like the fortunes of Tomaso Pantera’s twenty years ago, this lack of a mass market cheering section has driven prices down.

This cookie orange edition comes at a price for the masses, even offered without credit / bad credit, just like an old Kia Rio. We’ll get to that price in a minute, but a little more on the car first.

On paper, the Viper may not seem like such a car for all the money it asks. There’s only two seats, no roll-up windows, no airbags or ABS, and the thing hits around 8 miles per gallon if you’re unlucky enough to get stuck in traffic. On the other hand, these are also very difficult to drive and will kill you if your talent is not up to its capabilities.

Much of the Viper’s fun factor is derived from the menacing, 400-horsepower 8-liter V10 from under the long hood with flap. This all-aluminum grinder also produces 465 lb-ft of torque and these can be achieved at a simple the depth of the throttle toes. A five-speed Tremec T56 supports this and works through a fairly heavy clutch pedal doing everyday leg day in a viper. All of this is packaged in a 3,490 lb package.

This set is dressed in a non-factory orange, a shade that appears to come from the Dodge Stealth color catalog. According to the VIN, it was originally black. The paint appears to suit the car well and appears to have been decently applied. All badges and nameplates are present and recorded also.

The wheels are another aftermarket addition and in this case they look a little less successful to me. Two-piece, five-spoke alloys, they’re wrapped in extremely short cross-sectional tires that still seem to have life despite the Viper’s penchant for rubbing rubber.

The interior is in stock with the singular exception of a stereo later purchased in store. This appears to have a removable front, which can be a safe choice if you park your Viper wide open in bad neighborhoods. Everything else here is in decent shape, with some noticeable cracks in the leather on the driver’s seat and a crooked Viper logo in the center of the steering wheel as the only appeals. Hard side the curtains seem to come with the car, however, the presence of a the top goes UNmentioned in the ad.

If you’ve never opened or closed the hood of a first-gen Viper, I suggest you check out a YouTube tutorial before doing so. There is a special process for handling the strangely fragile piece of plastic and if you handle it improperly you may face a very expensive repair bill. Once you get the hang of this one, you’ll discover a reasonably clean engine bay, noticeable only by the aftermarket conical filters on the dual air intakes.

The dealer describes the condition of the 57,000 mile Viper as excellent and, as you would expect, is selling it with a clear title. There is no other information in the ad about the car itself, although if you’re interested in what kind of buyers the dealership is willing to work with, they’ve got you covered.

Okay we’ve seen the car, we know we can finance it no matter how many bankruptcies we’ve had …what exactly would we fund? The asking price for this Viper is $ 26,777. That’s a big change from the decent editions of these cars just a few years ago and is good proof of the general softening of the used exotic and classic car markets..

As I noted, these early Vipers demand special treatment, and not many people are interested in dealing with a Drama Queen living in their garage. This makes it all the more affordable for those who do. The question for you is whether this Viper can claim $ 26,777 worth of drama.
