Bhubaneswar: Amid the Omicron threat and the third wave, another outbreak of COVID-19 was reported on Monday at an educational facility in Odisha.
According to sources, several students from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Kaptipada of Mayurbhanj district tested positive in the antigen test. Following the detection of these cases, a medical team from Kaptipada quickly traveled to the educational facility to collect samples from all students, teachers and other staff for RT-PCR testing.
Dispelling fears of the spread of the virus, School and Mass Education Minister Samir Dash said isolated cases of COVID are being reported in educational institutions and these will not no impact on the overall atmosphere of the study.
âPhysics lessons are conducted in accordance with the SOP, and district administrations perform rapid tests whenever necessary. All measures are taken to ensure the safety of the students, âhe said.
He added that there were no plans to change class schedules due to the COVID infection.
In the past week, more than 200 students have been infected with the virus at various educational institutions including VIMSAR, Burla, across the state.
In the third week of November, 53 inmates at a Plus II boarding school in Sundargarh district tested positive. Subsequently, samples from over 74 students from VIMSAR, Burla, 56 students from a private residential college at Kunjakanta in Dhenkanal, 25 students from a boarding school at Thakurmunda in Mayurbhanj, nine girls from Dasrathpur in Jajpur and 10 inmates from ‘an outbreak in Angul was also found infected.
Ten students at a government-run girls’ school in the Balangir district of Odisha have also tested positive for COVID-19.
On December 10, more than 12 teachers from Kendriya Vidyalaya-1 and two students from Capital High School in Bhubaneswar were found infected.
