The UNC School of Medicine is looking for a faculty member to take on the role of Director of the Learning Environment. Please submit documentation to Carrie Jackman-Hoyle, Director of Strategic Education Initiatives at [email protected] by Friday January 14 COB.


The UNC School of Medicine is looking for a faculty member who is committed to optimizing the learning environment to serve as the Director of the Learning Environment. Their responsibilities will include educating about the learning environment and handling all learning environment reports from the SOM reporting mechanisms. This specifically includes collecting information, providing feedback, and discussing with students and faculty about the learning environment. In addition, they will have to interface with our Equal Opportunities and Compliance office and our human resources offices. Knowledge and skills required include, but are not limited to, neutrality, communication, compassion, cultural humility, and diversity and equity training. They must be comfortable having complex and crucial conversations and must be familiar with the challenges of the learning environment in the culture of medicine and be able to work to change that culture. This person will report to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and will also work with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs. They will collaborate formally and informally with other leaders involved in the learning environment at the Faculty of Medicine, the GME office and occasionally in other UNC programs. This position will be paid at 0.3 FTE.
