Azamgarh: A school that started in 2003 with 20 students in Phadgudia, Azamgarh district and one teacher has grown into a modern and progressive school in the 21st century.
Azam Welfare and Educational Trust was established in 2003, and the foundations for English-language preschool and primary school were laid. Later, approval to set up education up to the eighth grade was obtained from the state department of education in 2013. In 2022, approval to register with the board of ICSE for Class 10 has been approved.
Currently, the school has 14 rooms with a play area for kindergarten classes. The preschool education is based on the Holistic International Islamic Montessori system, a franchise of Brainy Stars of Bangalore.
For the primary and secondary school, a large building of approximately 30,000 square feet comprising more than 30 classrooms, various laboratories, a library, administrative offices, staff rooms, a visitors’ room, a main office, an auditorium and a sports arena was built to accommodate around 1,200 students.
The school has, in addition to the conventional science laboratories (physics, chemistry and biology), built a modern language and computer laboratory and a mathematics laboratory.
The English Language Lab provides a platform where comprehensive and interactive digital content with audio and video system components meets the four basic language skills Listening, speaking, reading and writing.
An academy by the name of “Azam Career Academy” was launched on August 20, 2017 at Hera Public School in Phadgudia. It was started by Azam Welfare and Educational Trust Phadgudia, Azamgarh.
The aim of the academy is to provide professional guidance, advice, professional training and personalized coaching to students for their optimal career path.
Along with other facilities, the school offers residences for 100 boys and 100 girls.
Azam Welfare and Educational Trust has set up a unique sponsorship system to finance the education of poor students from the most disadvantaged sections of our society.
The current average cost of sponsorship is Rs. 20,000 per student per year.
Of the total number of students, 200 or 15% of the workforce are sponsored. Azam Welfare and Educational Trust’s new target is 25%.
Founder of Hera Public School
IR Tarique Azam is the founder of the school. He is also Chairman of UP Rabta Committee, one of the Directors of All India Educational Movement (for Asia-Pacific), Founding Member of Syed Hamid Foundation Delhi and Member of Governing Board of Shibli Academy.
He was born on February 20, 1950 and completed his elementary education at the Madrasa in the village of Phadgudia and the primary school in Islamia.
He completed his secondary education from an Upper and Middle Secondary School (UP Board) near Shibli National College, Azamgarh in 1969.
In the same year, he entered IIT Madras, Dept. Of Civil Engg. and graduated with high honors in 1974. He completed his master’s degree in geotechnics. Engg. at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) Bangkok, Thailand in 1975.
