Financing educational institutions is a collective responsibility — Ibadan Poly rector

The Rector of Ibadan Polytechnic (TPI), Professor Kazeem Adekunle Adebiyi, has identified adequate funding and its proper management as the foundation of a viable education system.

He also said that funding for the educational institution should not be left in the hands of the government alone, saying it is a collective responsibility.

Prof. Adebiyi was speaking at the 46th Association of Bursars of Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology (BURSCON) 2022, organized by Ibadan Polytechnic and held at the CIBN Hall of the institution last Tuesday.

He noted that in this time of resource scarcity, it has become appropriate for fellows to come together to see how they can best help their various institutions meet their financial obligations.

“The bringing together of bursars who are the chief financial officers of their institutions at a time like this cannot be overemphasized. It is timely for them to come and share their experiences and ideas on how to improve the RMI of their various institutions,” he said.

He appreciated the association for choosing Ibadan Polytechnic as the venue for its 46th quarterly meeting, which was held for three days and its efforts to help fellows to be the best at their various institutions.

In his address, the Financial Secretary of BURSCON, Mr. Kassim Yusha’u Shika, who represented the National President of BURSCON, Dr. Salisu I. Ladan, said that the pursuit of more revenue in higher education institutions others is a problem that cannot be solved quickly. .

He noted, however, that through the financial perspectives of fellows, there are strategies that could be used to overcome or reduce financial burdens on institutions to a bare minimum.

Speaking on the purpose of the 46th quarterly meeting, he said it was to create a way for financial controllers of higher education institutions in the polytechnic sector to come together to review their internal operations to see how they can improve in terms of reducing their cost of operation and improving internally generated revenue in pursuit of the core mandate of research, teaching and innovation.

Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of TPI, Prof. Adekunle Akinyemi remarked that “the challenges faced by higher education institutions are by no means uncommon”, therefore, the Management ingenuity must play a role in administering the scarce resources available. funds to meet the needs of the institution.

“All avenues should be explored to ensure proper disbursement of funds towards the achievement of institutional goals and objectives,” he said.
