Howard Community College will provide a blended learning environment for the fall semester

Howard Community College will offer more ways to learn this fall
Some instruction-based and appointment-based services will be available on campus
Howard Community College will provide a blended learning environment for the fall semester, with in-person instruction for courses that benefit from hands-on experiences or labs. There will be three different course formats – hybrid, programmed distance, and flexible online – to help students find the courses that best match their learning styles, educational goals and schedules. Some services will be available by appointment to allow in-person assistance with academic advice, financial aid, and other important registration services.
âFrom the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, Howard Community College has prioritized the health, safety and well-being of students, faculty and staff. The decision for the fall aligns with the college’s own recovery and reopening plan and follows guidelines from Howard County, the State of Maryland and the Centers for Disease and Prevention, âsaid Dr. Kate Hetherington , president. âI greatly appreciate the patience and persistence of the college community as we develop our plan for the future, which balances health and safety with the need for certain in-person services and instructions.â
Among the three course formats available for the fall, hybrid courses providing students with education both on campus and online. The main campus is listed as the location of the hybrid courses in the revised course schedule now available at howardcc.edu. Scheduled distance courses will meet virtually at designated times in an online classroom. Zoom is listed as the location for these courses, as the courses will be delivered via Zoom videoconference. Flexible online courses allow students to learn at their own pace. These courses may or may not use Zoom, and recorded lectures will be published for students to watch at times that are most convenient for them. Online is listed as the location of these classes.

College recovery and reopening plan
Over the next few months, all faculty, staff, and students will be required to maintain a safe and healthy environment on campus by wearing face coverings (masks), social distancing with at least six feet separation, and good hygiene. The college currently requires all employees coming to campus to complete an online health screening form to ensure they are free of symptoms of COVID-19. This form will be provided to students to complete when they begin to return to campus.
Based on the college’s takeover and reopening plan, full campus operations will resume once the state and county move to phase three of their plans. No matter when that might happen, fall classes will continue in the currently designated format – hybrid, programmed distance, and flexible online – with the goal of minimizing disruption and ensuring continuity of learning.
