(MAHWAH, New Jersey) — Ramapo College of New Jersey has emerged at the forefront of higher education in the state for its influential leadership, innovative hands-on instruction, and state-of-the-art learning environment.

President Cindy R. Jebb was among the most influential college presidents in the state. Dr. Jebb became the fifth president of Ramapo College in July 2021. She retired from the U.S. Army after 39 years of service at the rank of brigadier general, professor emeritus, and as the first female dean of the academic board of the US Military Academy at West Indicate.

During Dr. Jebb’s first year as President, the College implemented its Fall Operations Plan with the priority of ensuring a healthy, healthy, safe and vibrant student experience, while embracing a culture of dignity and respect marked by empathy, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Additionally, the College has attracted high-profile guest speakers, secured several federal grants, and launched a bold strategic planning process through a series of campus-wide future-focused summits, an innovative requirements and comprehensive general planning of campus facilities.

The College’s Forensic Genealogy Innocence Lab was named one of 15 unique academic programs at colleges across the state. The course, led by Assistant Professor David Gurney, Law & Society, includes the use of genetic genealogy to identify families from DNA evidence left at crime scenes. Students use emerging forensic genetic genealogy tools to help solve wrongful conviction cases using real client records.

In addition, students receive hands-on instruction focused on the use of traditional genealogy, criminal procedures and post-conviction relief, and confidentiality in legal and genealogical contexts.

The completion of the Peter P. Mercer Learning Commons, which opened in September 2021, was also noted by ROI for “construction that hasn’t stopped during the pandemic.” The project completely redesigned the former library space by modernizing and expanding the building. footprint to feature state-of-the-art classrooms and labs, group and individual study rooms, media centers, on-site technology resources, a creative space design lab, cafe, archives, research centers and projects, and boasts breathtaking views of Mount Ramapo.
