Scholarly literature is vital for quality research for any educational institution: Dir NIT Srinagar

Srinagar, August 05: Director of National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar, Prof. (Dr) Rakesh Sehgal said on Friday that scholarly literature is vital for quality research for any educational institution and there is a need to focus on these areas.

Addressing the gathering at an event titled “Publishing Scholarly Content with IEEE” organized by Library and Information Resource Center (LIRC) NIT Srinagar in collaboration with IEEE.

Professor Sehgal explained the importance of scholarly literature. He also highlighted NIT-Srinagar’s commitment to spending a good portion of the budget to provide the best and high quality electronic resources to students, researchers and faculty members.

“Libraries are the gateway to knowledge and they play an important role in our society. The resources were aimed at creating learning opportunities and shaping new ideas,” he said.

Prof. Sehgal also appreciated the library patrons and also appreciated the LIRC team for organizing such events and also highlighted organizing such events in the future.

In his special message, the Registrar of the Institute, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari, said such conferences were the need of the hour. He thanked the LIRC for organizing the conference on a relevant topic.

Prof. Bukhari said that over the past few years, NIT Srinagar has seen phenomenal growth in the areas of research. There is a visible change on the ground, he said.

LIRC President Prof. Aijaz Ahmed Zargar also provided his valuable insights on the print edition in various modes i.e. Open Access, Paid Access etc. Educated the public to use IEEE resources to publish in quality journals.

The event began with a welcoming address delivered by Assistant Librarian Asmat Ali, organizer of the event.

Asmat said that electronic information resources are made available for research to a large extent by our institute, but the user education program and training are essential for customers in the context of use and easy retrieval of refined information.

In his keynote address, Ranbir Singh Sedhe, Manager of Client Services at IEEE, explained “how to publish scientific content in IEEE journals and conferences, etc.

He also highlighted the key services offered by the IEEE to its users and subscribers. All the objectives of the event were tactfully addressed by the speaker.

While over a hundred participants had registered for the event, including university researchers, faculty members, M.Techand B.Tech students.
