Students in higher education institutions need to master 21st century skills – Noraini

PUTRAJAYA (November 23): Rapid technological change and globalization are forcing students in higher education institutions to master 21st century skills, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said.

She said it was because most employers now prefer to hire those with digital skills.

Citing a World Bank report, Noraini said that half of the jobs in Malaysia, including accountants, machine and manufacturing operators, electronic engineering technicians, aviation technicians and electrical engineering technicians, are at risk. to be replaced by automation.

“Automation will have direct implications for deskilling, retraining and development needs,” she said at the launch of the Universiti Malaysia Perlis Professional Program (UniMAP) and Loan Program for the University. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) (employees) under the Skills Development and Fund Corporation (PTPK), here today.

The text of his speech was read by the Deputy Secretary General (Politics) of the Ministry, Dr Mohd Zabri Yusoff. UniMAP Vice-Chancellor Professor Zaliman Sauli was present.

At the same time, she said that the program offered by UniMAP would offer more than 11,000 people the opportunity to follow non-formal lifelong learning (PSH) programs in the field of construction TVET.

At the end of the five-year programs, applicants will earn a certificate from UniMAP and the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), as well as the Malaysian Skills Certificate. – Bernama
