Teachers and school staff invited to be vaccinated

KUALA LUMPUR (August 7): Teachers, members of the implementation group and support staff at educational institutions who have not yet received their immunization appointments or who have not yet received vaccine were instructed to do so immediately.

Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin said this followed the decision of the Covid-19 Vaccination Task Force (CITF) to expand the walk-in vaccination initiative nationwide immunization centers for special groups, including those under the Ministry of Education (MOE).

“Thanks to the close partnership between the Ministry of Education and the CITF, teachers, members of the implementation group and support service staff in schools under the ministry are among the special groups listed.

“Details on the walk-in vaccination for this group, including the required supporting documents, will be announced soon,” he said in a Facebook post today.

He said efforts to ensure that members of the education ecosystem are immunized would be stepped up through the CITF-MOE ad hoc working group.

CITF, in a media statement today, said the drop-in vaccination initiative implemented in the Klang Valley will soon be extended to nationwide public vaccination centers for special groups.

Walk-in vaccination will be limited to the elderly, people with disabilities, people with co-morbidities aged 18 and over, those who have missed their second dose, as well as teachers, members of the implementation group. and the support services staff of MOE educational institutions.

Radzi said that according to ministry records, a total of 352,649 teachers (85.41 percent), 52,256 implementation group members (77.69 percent) and 54,930 support service staff , including school bus / van operators (46.64 percent) have received at least one dose of vaccine to date.

A total of 84,995 exam class teachers (94.89%) also received their first dose of the vaccine, he said. – Bernama
