The Acronis Foundation builds a new school and provides a safe learning environment for children in remote areas of Senegal

SCHAFFHOUSE, Switzerland–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Four months after a group of Acronis employees traveled to the remote village of Soupa Serere in Senegal to begin construction of a new school, the school has opened its doors to 140 boys and girls enthusiasts eager to learn and pursue their dreams. The school was built as a joint project between Acronis Foundation (a non-profit organization created to build a brighter future) and buildOn (a non-profit organization focused on breaking the cycle of poverty, illiteracy and low expectations through service and education).
The school’s opening ceremony brought together families, village elders and guests who all celebrated the incredible knowledge and opportunities offered by the new school.
“It’s about joining forces for a better future for these children,” said Jochen Berger, CEO of Acronis Foundation. “Acronis and its partners around the world not only bring hope, but also the real ways for local boys and girls to access knowledge, empowering them to achieve their dreams.
With the help of its top sporting partners, the Formula 1 team ROKiT Williams Racing and the Arsenal Football Club, the Acronis Foundation provided school supplies, jerseys and footballs – promoting the health and physical education to make school work fun.
“We are proud to support the Acronis Foundation by raising awareness and donating team memorabilia for their fundraising activities. It is an unforgettable experience to see the joy in the eyes of boys and girls, so eager to learn,” said Graeme Hackland, CIO of the ROKiT Williams Racing Formula One team who attended the opening ceremony. .
“It is always a privilege to support local communities and children who love football,” said Mark Gonnella, Arsenal’s director of communications and community affairs. “We believe football has the power to inspire young people and teach them valuable life skills, such as teamwork and respect. These are transferable to other aspects of their lives and can help them unlock their true potential.
Senegal, a coastal country in West Africa, is home to more than 13 million inhabitants, more than 50% of whom live below the poverty line. Less than 40% can read and write. The new school will provide a safe learning environment for children from Soupa Serere who previously had to walk four kilometers every day to another school in a nearby village.
This is the fourth school built by Acronis Foundation since the launch of the Schools Initiative program in 2018. Four more projects are already underway and the Foundation aims to build 15 schools over the next three years to enable the access to education. to thousands of boys and girls around the world.
“We do empowerment. It’s not just the schools we’re building. We work with communities to break the cycle of poverty. Each school is a great investment in the children and communities we support. Building a new school in this community has the potential to change lives,” said Maurice Muchene, VP of Business Development at buildOn.
